There were many restricting factors with this renovation, one being the Heart Rimu tongue and groove ceiling which was very low and also had heavy and dark stained exposed timber beams down from this, it is also a long but narrow space with many doors and windows to contend with.

The ceiling and beams were to stay as they were and the client wished for indoor/ outdoor access from the kitchen to the courtyard, also a bar in the kitchen was to be included which I placed near the courtyard and included a small sink in this area.

The client wished for a timber kitchen but with a difference, it is to lighten and brighten the area and quite liked the idea of a Southern American look, so I suggested a Light Ash with a colour wash over, 30mm Emerald Pearl Granite was utilised to enhance this and tied through with the recycled brick feature walls in the adjoining rooms.
