Clients Brief: We wanted a functional uncluttered kitchen with plentiful light, and combine the use of timber, glass, stainless steel, we prefer our storage to be in drawers rather than cupboards. If at all possible a removable timber chopping board to be incorporated into the bench. Simplicity, yet something unique and eye-catching is our aim.

Designers Response:

With the kitchen being open plan to the dining, living and lounge, my thoughts were to create an island which was to become the feature and incorporating a bar to complement it and with the remaining areas to be a soft and simple backdrop.

Simplicity so the colours and materials used being European Beech Timber and a combination of Pale Oyster and Soya Bean paint on the walls creates a warmth.

Our bar proved to be somewhat of a challenge weighing in at half a tonne and to be supported by a tapered stainless steel leg with feature cutouts. So well done to my joiner Mark and Lain Park Joinery who didn't want to know about it at the time, a stunning effect to be proud of, this was enhanced by the suspended halogen light strategically placed over the bar, which at night forms a shadow onto the tiled floor below.

A warm and inviting kitchen was created with earthy tones to harmonize with the olive groves outside, yet personalized with simplicity.
